Zoo Day

On Friday we took Tyler to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro. It was a beautiful day to be outside with temperatures in the high 70s. By the afternoon, we were actually feeling a little hot, which was the first time in a long, long time. All week, when we would ask Tyler what he wanted to see at the zoo, he would say, "ooo-who," which means "monkey" and, "roar" for "lion". So, all day, he kept asking to see the monkeys and lions, which were on the opposite side of the zoo from where we entered. We eventually made our way over to them both, but the monkeys (specifically the chimpanzees) were definitely his favorite animal that we saw. He also got excited every time he saw a tram or bus running through the zoo. He just loves anything that looks like a bus. It was fun for us to see him get so excited about everything. We went to the zoo right before Tyler turned 1 last year, and even though he had fun then, he seemed to enjoy it a lot more now that he's a big boy!

saying "hi" to some new friends

"driving" this car was one of his favorite things at the zoo

he really did keep saying "hi", as if he expected a reply

Daddy's shoulders were great for viewing the animals

We told him he could only pick one stuffed animal and he finally decided to pick the elephant (he already has several monkeys at home that are just like the ones shown here).

Big Boy Bed

Today we set up Tyler's big boy toddler bed. It has construction trucks all over the sheet and quilt, so he was excited about it all evening. He loves pointing out all the excavators, which he pronounces something like, "eck-uh-nehn". He kept saying, "nap," and would lay his head down on the bed. When it finally came time to put him to bed tonight, he didn't want to lie down at first, but he didn't try to climb down and he didn't say anything. Before I knew it, I could hear him snoring over the monitor. I guess we'll see how it goes the rest of the night, but at least we're off to a pretty good start...

Easter

We enjoyed a pretty laid back Easter this year. We went to church in the morning and after Tyler's afternoon nap, we gave him his Easter basket. He also got to open his Easter presents from Grandma and Grandpa Surface and his cousins in Missouri. PJ was very curious about the presents and had to make sure he got a piece of the action.

Grandma and Grandpa Pittman (my sister-in-law's parents) invited us to their house for an Easter egg hunt and dinner in the evening. Tyler had a ton of fun hunting for eggs with his cousin Cooper and he really enjoyed opening each one to see what was inside. I'm thinking an indoor egg hunt might just be the perfect activity for a rainy afternoon. =)

Good Friday

Yesterday Tyler and I went to Nana and Papa's house to make Easter cookies. As you can see, Tyler did his part to "help" in the process. Nana gave him his own mound of sugar cookie dough and some cookie cutters and he got right to work. Surprisingly, we actually ended up baking a couple of the cookies he helped cut out. He enjoyed stamping the dough with the egg-shaped cutter, but after a while, he really just wanted to go play Cooper's drums with Papa. Boys will be boys...

I also took a couple pictures of little Gabe just being his happy self. He has such an easy disposition, not to mention a super cute smile.

First Post

I've finally decided to jump aboard the blog train. (We'll see how long I can stay on it...) I hope all our friends and family who visit this blog enjoy the updates and photos!
